Tal Herbsman, MD

Board-Certified Psychiatrist

Dr. Herbsman is a board-certified psychiatrist with comprehensive training and experience in general adult psychiatry. Over the course of a 20+ year career he has worked in almost every kind of psychiatric setting. He has been an outpatient and inpatient psychiatrist. He has worked at an HMO, private practice, free clinics, the VA, universities and state hospitals. Before joining MPA, he was the inpatient behavioral health medical director at St. Mary’s Hospital where he also directed the treatment refractory depression clinic and the electroconvulsive therapy and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation services.

When appropriate he is also comfortable referring for other treatment modalities.

He was raised in north central Florida but has been living happily in Madison for 15 years with his family. He has an undergraduate degree from Princeton University, a master’s degree from the University of Michigan. He earned his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed both his residency and fellowship training in psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina in lovely Charleston. Dr. Herbsman holds certifications from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board.
